Most coaches in South Africa start with no structured introduction at all. They learn by watching, by trial and error, or by copying whatever the last coach did. This course exists to close that gap, at no cost, in under two hours.
What the course covers.
Grassroots and youth coaching fundamentals
How to design age-appropriate practices, why small-sided games matter more than full-sided matches for young players, the basics of safeguarding and duty of care, and why physical literacy comes before technical specialisation.
General coaching principles
The plan, do, review coaching cycle. How to structure a session from warm-up to cool-down. When to use command-style coaching versus guided discovery. Communication techniques that actually improve player decision-making.
Introduction to tactical concepts
The four moments of the game: in possession, out of possession, and the two transitions most coaches never train for. Principles of play on both sides of the ball. Why a formation is a starting shape, not a rulebook.
Each module ends with an eight-question knowledge check. Score six out of eight or better to unlock the next module.
Who this course is for.
- Parent coaches running a grassroots team for the first time
- Assistant coaches who never had a formal introduction to coaching principles
- Anyone considering a future in coaching who wants to test their interest before committing time and money
- Coaches preparing for South Africa's SAFA/CAF pathway who want a head start on the fundamentals
Is this a UEFA or CAF coaching licence?
No. This is a free introductory certificate, not a federation-issued qualification. It does not replace SAFA, CAF or UEFA accredited coaching courses, and it carries no formal coaching status on its own. What it does give you is a genuine grounding in coaching fundamentals, and a clear next step if you want to go further — our masterclasses, specialist courses, and the UEFA accreditation pathway we are building for Southern African coaches.

Frequently asked.
Is this course really free?
Yes. There is no cost at any stage, and no obligation to purchase anything afterward.
Do I need any prior coaching experience?
No. The course is built for complete beginners as well as coaches wanting to formalise knowledge they have picked up informally.
Is the certificate recognised by SAFA, CAF or UEFA?
No. It is a Tribal Nation Sports Foundation Certificate, recognising completion of our introductory curriculum. It is not a substitute for federation-accredited coaching qualifications.
How long does the course take?
Around ninety minutes in total across all three modules, though it is entirely self-paced.
What happens after I finish?
You receive a downloadable, printable certificate, and you become one of the first to hear about our masterclasses, specialist courses and the UEFA accreditation pathway as they launch.
